WAYJO Composer-in-Residence

Recently I was announced as the 2014 West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra Composer-in-Residence, hooray! This means I will be writing some new big band music, to be performed by the ensemble at a premiere concert in May, at the Perth International Jazz Festival.

This is a great opportunity to expand on my previous pieces for big band and write my first extended large ensemble composition, under the guidance of WAYJO artistic director and all-round great guy, Mace Francis.  I can’t wait to get stuck in!!

WAYJO played such an important part of my develop, having played trumpet in the band for many years, and had my first big band pieces performed by the ensemble.  I’m looking forward to returning to the organisation that really encouraged me to follow this career, and show them what I’ve learnt!!
